Tragedy of Typhoid Fever Pvt. Darius Barber (1828 - 1863) 106th N.Y. Regt. Co. E

Pvt. Darius Barber passed away due to the dreaded Typhoid fever while serving his country in the Union Army with the 106th New York Regt. Company E.

What stands out is the beneficiary of his wife Elizabeth and apparently their child a minor in pension records with the Name Hoxie (which I’ve seen the name Hoxie in the veteran list which is of mention).

I can not find his gravestone or cemetery memorial. Any collaboration in his genealogy is appreciated.

It appears 1863 for this Company brought with it the Typhoid fever!

Thank you

I left you a comment on Darius' profile.  I think you have the records of the wrong Darius on this profile.  Compare the two 1850 census named probable parents

The 1860 census I haven’t added to sources as it’s still being researched but does show an Elizabeth. I haven’t looked at the 2 (1850 census reports) yet. The civil war records are definitely his so sources cited should be his service record. Definitely interesting about the canton Darius Barber psssing after the death date so def not him. Lots of research to be done still. I was hoping to find his obituary.
I'm glad it helps.  I knew the war records were correct for who ever you picked from the censuses.  Interesting that I picked this weekend to check service people.  I had been thinking about you and New York servicemen.  Watertown newspaper just had a big article on Waddington expanding their coverage dedicated to 8 Civil War and 2 WWI men who lost their lives and wondered if it was some thing that could help you.  It listed the names and what service and
(I think) group they were with.
