Categories - Census Records

What are the advantages/disadvantages of using the category for the actual census in the actual location like this:

[[Category:1950 US Census, Scott County, Tennessee]]

Instead of just this:

[[Category: Scott County, Tennessee]]

I just usually use the category for the town, county, etc.  Some of my profiles would have a lot of census categories.

Thanks,

Sheila

the category Scott County, Tennessee, could be pertinent to BMD events, the census categories pinpoint a residence at a specific point in time.  One does not exclude the other in this case.  For the rest, see Darren's answer.

The advantages of using Census categories can be considered to be

  • Confirming a certain time the person was in the location at a glance
  • Grouping people in that area in that time
  • Provides a narrower category for the specific county
  • Can help identify when someone moved or visited someone, ie not in they usual location
Only main disadvantage is if you think more categories can clutter a profile.
Categories are a personal preference so people can add as many or as few as they like as long as the category has reference to the profile categorized.

Thanks for the info.  I really have to think on this!  It would be a lot of stuff on some of my profiles. But it might be worth it.

Thanks again!
