Do you have early ancestors from Maryland, Virginia, the Carolinas, and/or Georgia, or are you interested in working on pre-1776 profiles from these colonies?  If so, come join the US Southern Colonies Project. There are plenty of ways to get involved, whether it be through a colonial, topical, or a profile improvement team.

If you have an interest in U.S. Southern Colonial history, have been on WikiTree at least 30 days, have made at least 200 contributions, and have successfully taken the pre-1700 quiz, then we would love to have you join us.

To join the project, please click on the 'answer this post' link below and say that you would like to join (please don't use the 'comment' link as it makes it hard to keep track - thanks!) and list the team(s) that you want to join.  Make sure that you are logged onto Wikitree when you answer so we know who you are.  A project member will be in touch to get your email address (for the Google group discussion) and confirm your team interests.

Sincerely, Mary, Membership Coordinator

I’d like to join the Carolina and Virginia teams to research my Quaker relatives who’ve been in America since the early 1600s.
Hi Jennifer Merritt Jordan,    I will send you a private Wikitree email for you to read, then reply to my email with your email address.  This will take a while to direct add you to the teams.  Be thinking on whether you want just Carolina, or all three Carolina teams (Carolina,  Province of North Carolina (1715-1776) and Province of South Carolina (1715-1776).
I would like to join Maryland, Virginia, Carolina.
I am sending you a private Wikitree emaill with directions on what to do next.  Basically you will have to answer the email, so that I receive your email address.  With that, I will add you to the Teams.  Look once again at Carolikna.   There are 3 Carolinas-  Carolina, North Carolina and South  Carolina.

I have ancestors in Virginia, Kentucky and other southern colonies. Additionally, I have some "brick walls" that I would love to someday verifiably resolve. Thank you.
by Lianne Gregory G2G Crew (720 points)
Lianne, I sent you a private WikiTree email about selecting the Teams and replying to me.  When you reply, I use  your email address to add you to Teams.   Kentucky is not a Southern Colony. They are Colony of Virginia, Province of Maryland, Province of Carolina, Province of North Carolina, Province of South Carolina, Jamestown Colony, and Province of Georgia
Thank you Mary. Any information is a welcome thing!  I am not sure what to do, or if I am to begin something, just let me know please.

Lianne Gregory

The US Southern Colonies Project requires a minimum of 200 contributions as well as the pre-1700 certification. With Saving frequently,  I suggest you add more family, parents, siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles. Then add grand parents, and great grand parents.  Add good sources to all  Save, Save. By then you may reach the minimum contributions.  Then  Answer the posting again.

I would like to join the Maryland, Virginia and Jamestown teams. I am the manager of Joseph Johnson-109004. My ancestor, George Prowse was living with Joseph and his wife at Archer's Hope. John Johnson and his wife Ann & 2 children were also living at Archer's Hope. I am looking for a possible family connection to Joseph Johnson. Found potential parents to Joseph. I have a large database of family in Maryland. I believe my research skills and many online resources would be helpful.

I would like to join the US Southern Colonies Project to further research my 6x great grandfather, Robert "Roger" Thompson and his ancestors and descendants.  I expect I have many more ancestors that lived in the Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee pre-Civil War.

by Patricia Ryan G2G Crew (350 points)

US Southern Colonies project requires 200 contributions to join and to self certify for the pre1700 certification.   https://www.wikitree.com/form/pre_1700   .  I suggest you add more ancestors, cousins, etc.  Save as you work on these ancestors, add sources with links for the ancestors, and Save.  Then when you reach 200, then answer this posting again with an ANSWER.

At that time I will send a private message t you with the Team links..  You will need to reply to that so that I receive your email address.  We look forward to hearing from you soon..

Hello, I would like to join the Southern Colonies Project focusing on the colonies of Maryland and Carolina. The first known Capshaw arrived in St Mary's County, Maryland in the 1670s and then the descendants relocated to Tryon/Rutherford County in Carolina about 1840-50.
by Hal Capshaw G2G2 (2.6k points)

My Southern ancestors cover the entire U.S. Southern Coast, plus Bermuda and the Carribean. this includes founders of S.C., N.C., and Georgia and Colonial Governors of SC and NC. I would love to help anyway I can. I have an extensive hard book library and I belong to 6 genealogical memberships. Members of my family have been in every war this country has ever known, with the exception of the Korean War. I LOVE this stuff! Retirement is great!
