Do you have early ancestors from Maryland, Virginia, the Carolinas, and/or Georgia, or are you interested in working on pre-1776 profiles from these colonies?  If so, come join the US Southern Colonies Project. There are plenty of ways to get involved, whether it be through a colonial, topical, or a profile improvement team.

If you have an interest in U.S. Southern Colonial history, have been on WikiTree at least 30 days, have made at least 200 contributions, and have successfully taken the pre-1700 quiz, then we would love to have you join us.

To join the project, please click on the 'answer this post' link below and say that you would like to join (please don't use the 'comment' link as it makes it hard to keep track - thanks!) and list the team(s) that you want to join.  Make sure that you are logged onto Wikitree when you answer so we know who you are.  A project member will be in touch to get your email address (for the Google group discussion) and confirm your team interests.

Sincerely, Mary, Membership Coordinator

I’d like to join the Carolina and Virginia teams to research my Quaker relatives who’ve been in America since the early 1600s.
Hi Jennifer Merritt Jordan,    I will send you a private Wikitree email for you to read, then reply to my email with your email address.  This will take a while to direct add you to the teams.  Be thinking on whether you want just Carolina, or all three Carolina teams (Carolina,  Province of North Carolina (1715-1776) and Province of South Carolina (1715-1776).
I would like to join Maryland, Virginia, Carolina.
I am sending you a private Wikitree emaill with directions on what to do next.  Basically you will have to answer the email, so that I receive your email address.  With that, I will add you to the Teams.  Look once again at Carolikna.   There are 3 Carolinas-  Carolina, North Carolina and South  Carolina.

Thank you Caitlin,

Hi  Ronnie,

The US Southern Colonies project requires a minimum of 100 contributions and the Pre-1700 self Certification..  You are about 21 contributions below that.   I suggest you add a more  ancestors to your tree or more sources, and quickly you will reach 100 total.                                                      Then, please post again with an Answer on g2g that you want to join the project.         Thanks for your post.  We look forward to hearing from you again.

Hi  Steven

The US Soutthern Colonies Project requires a minimum of 200 contributions and the Pre-1700 self Certification.  I suggest you add your ancestors with sources, until you reach the 100 Contributions, then go to g2g to reapply for this project again with an Answer.

Kentucky and southern Indiana are not part of the  US Southern Colonies.

Also please edit your post and remove your email address from g2g, as it is not a good idea to leave your email posted on this format.

Thanks

I am interested in joining all the Pre-1700 Southern Colonies Teams. Georgia would be the only one I have not worked in. I just connected with Maryland. Most of mine have been Virginia and the Carolinas, IN, TN and KY. I have actually been working these profiles for quite some time.

I have been active a few years and am setting aside time soon to work on my pre-1500 certification but since I have created and/or manage quite a few profiles of direct ancestors that helped colonize the south, especially North Carolina, where I still live, if I could be of use to the project, I'd certainly like to help out. It may make it easier to help cross reference profiles for some of the U.S. Black Heritage Project as well.

Sorry to ramble but if I needed to be specific I'd think my contributions would be best for the Carolinas.

   Cheers!

I would like to join Southern Colonies.  I'm already working with USBH on the Plantations projects which lists the enslaved on plantations.  Often I need to create or connect the families who live in Southern Colonies.  Let me know what I can do to help.  Michelle

Hi Mary

My entire paternal side is from the Southern United States and I can trace many branches back to Virginia pre 1700 and my Gilbert branch to Maryland also pre 1700. I meet the qualifications you list for membership (time, contributions and 1700 quiz).

However, at this point in time, I wish to spend my free time starting and editing profiles for my ancestors and their relatives.  I don't have time, at the present, for assigned tasks.  So, if there is a place for someone like me, I'd like to join.

Perhaps while creating and editing profiles in Virginia and North Carolina, I can further your goals in some way, such as tagging profiles that fall into one of your research projects.

Thanks for your time

I would love to be involved with this project.  Most of my ancestors came to Maryland and Virginia, were solicitors, land owners, Assemblymen, then children moved to North and South Carolina and Georgia.  Many relatives from the Edgefield District in South Carolina.
