My mother in law, Matilde Yolanda Suarez, born Feb. 24, 1920 in Cardenas, Cuba, deceased Jan. 16, 2008 in Owatonna, MN. received a book written by a cousin named Roger Emilio Hernandez, born 1955 in Havana, Cuba, deceased Sept. 6, 2008 in Ridgewood, NJ. The book is called Cubans In America, and it was the source of a TV special.
This cousin also wrote an article outlining his family story for AARP. Part of his story is my husband’s story as well, but we have been unable to make the connection as records from Cuba are very difficult if not impossible to get.
We have contacted still living cousins in Cuba to help put the family tree together, but have had little luck and no proofs. Most relatives have passed away, and Matilde’s and Roger’s families left Cuba in the early 1960’s.
We have DNA results from my husband, but no one else in his Cuban relations.
We can provide some information about Roger E. Hernandez’s parents and grandparents, and below is the AARP article link.

We were very encouraged by a presentation on FindingYour Roots for Cuban Raul Esparza, and are hopeful that family information for this cousin can be found as well.
