Hi y'all. I've a question, please.
Though I'm a 4th gen native born texan, I have traced my ancestry back to my 7th gen grandfather John William Allen who was b. in 1752 in Prince Edward County, Virginia.
Now here's where it gets interesting. Somewhere along the line his father was listed as a Joseph Allen II.
But I disagree with that. For the simple reason that I've always been told that my ancestry is mostly Irish with some thoughts added to it. The problem is when it comes to John William Allen's lineage, there's two possibilities of which one of them says Joseph Allen II what's his father.
The 2nd choice shows a Joseph Allen that was the son of Robert Allen, who was born in Antrim, Ulster County, Northern Ireland in the mid 1600s I believe. There's an Allen farm that I think is still there, in that area. That covers the Irish side. Where the Scots come in is Robert's father was James Allen I think who was born in the early 1600s and a suburb just outside Glasgow Scotland.
My point is I have tried to connect the dots and I get so confused as to whether it was Robert's son Joseph or maybe one of his other son's David, or whoever. I can't match the dates and figure out how they got to the United states. I seem to remember reading somewhere where John William's father came to the United States by way of Chesapeake Bay which I think is part of Virginia and that's where my ancestral lineage begins.
So if anybody knows how to connect these dots I'd appreciate it because I'm at the point that I've got myself so confused I just am about to give up.
Thanks y'all, Stephen
