I ran across a Notable profile and noticed it is set to Public not Open.  Can someone explain to me, please, if ALL deceased Notables should have open profiles or not.  I have looked at the help pages and I am still confused.wink

Thanks,

Sheila

According to the info at the Notables Project, "all deceased Notables and their family should be set to Open." So when you run into a Notable profile that is in some way locked, you should click on "Open Profile Request" in the column under the WikiTree-ID of the profile. Someone of the Team will then open the profile.

Thank you, Jelena.  That is what was confusing me.  I will do the open profile request.

THANKS!

It seems there is an exception to the "must be open" clause.

The Notables Project Box should only be used for profiles that are not Open Privacy. This would include profiles for living notables as well as deceased notables who have some controversial information that is at risk of being changed and need additional protections.

If the Notables Project Box is to be used on NON-Open profiles, I would think that Ravi's profile might fit that criterion.

Further to my above comment : what is currently needed is for the Notables Project — which is on the Trusted List (as is Scott) — to be added as co-manager, and the Project Box added.
I agree, Melanie. Ravi's profile looks too vulnerable to be open. Lots of deceased notables must be vulnerable enough, for various reasons, to need a bit of extra protection - i.e. if you need to edit them or add family you'll have to ask the managing project.
I agree.  Opening him would go against the 150/100 rule.  People (including Notables) who have only recently died should definitely not be Opened, imo.
But then, the rule of the Notables Project should be changed. As long as the Notable Project states it the way it does now (as I cited above), a Notable Profile should be open. So this profile should be open.

During the Challenge, living parents stay unlisted unless they are also Notables (then they are yellow protected). So there is no problem to open the Notable profile but keep the others locked.

No, this profile should not be open, as I quoted from the Notables Project page.

Goals

The goals of this project are:

  1. Identify "famous" and "notable" people who should have a profile. If you'd like ideas for who to add, you might see WikiTree's "Today in History", Wikipedia's "Today in History" event lists. You can find these at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/<Month>_<Day>, e.g. <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/December_25> or through lists such as Academy Award nominees and winners or Nobel Prize winners.
  2. Add those people to WikiTree.
    • Add the Notables Project Box or the Notables Sticker to the biography {{Notables}} or {{Notables Sticker}}.
      1. The Notables Project Box should only be used for profiles that are not Open Privacy. This would include profiles for living notables as well as deceased notables who have some controversial information that is at risk of being changed and need additional protections.

Melanie, Zacharias is deceased. This means the profile does not need the Project to manage it. Because he is a Notable, the paragraph under "Goals" says, as I quoted above

Living Notables should have privacy level set to Unlisted, and their deceased family should be set to Open. This is extremely important for GDPR privacy compliance. Likewise, all deceased Notables and their family should be set to Open.

The first sentence is not relevant, because Zacharias is dead. The last sentence is what counts here. As I said above, parents that are still under the 150/100 threshold can have locked privacy. The Notables Project Account is important to have *living* Notables opened, as it's stated on the Project's page.

Note that since the Privacy rules on living Notables have been updated to allow for many profiles to be set to something other than Unlisted, it is even more critical that the project account (below) is added as co-manager of these profiles.

(bolding from me)

The allegations against Zacharias would in my opinion justify to keep the profile closed. But that is the only reason to keep it closed. The age of the parents does not justify to keep the profile of Zacharias closed. They can have a locked privacy and that's it.

Jelena - bolding by me :

The Notables Project Box should only be used for profiles that are not Open Privacy. This would include profiles for living notables as well as deceased notables who have some controversial information that is at risk of being changed and need additional protections.

.

The above clause clearly states deceased Notables do not always have to be open.

I am disagreeing with the rules - or at least for the project page which may be a bit vague.  If a Notable (or any other person) died only a couple of years ago (as did this one), they should NOT be Open.  This particular profile has a fairly active PM, and I would agree with him that the profile is still Green.

If a profile is *managed* by the Profiles Project, then by their rules they need to be Open.  But if a profile is managed by somebody else, and merely has a Notables *sticker*, then I feel that the Privacy Level can be decided by the PM.  The Notables *sticker* does not award managership to the Notables Project.  It's just a sticker.

As far as I am aware, deceased Notables are just like any other profile of a deceased person - the Privacy level is up to the Profile Manager (and they are not all managed by the Notables Project).  The only time the profile should be Open is the same as ordinary profiles - if they were born over 150 years ago or if they died 100 years ago.
