Was his name Alfred?  Randolph County, Township 6S Range 7W.  You will have to go to land records or maybe tax records to get more specific.

"United States Census, 1870", database with images, FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M6H1-X36 : 29 May 2021), Alfred Gant in entry for Alfred Gant, 1870.

"United States Census, 1860", database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MXHD-BRM : 18 February 2021), Alfred Gant, 1860.

Edit to add more info.

Further to add:  Ancestry has some land records.  Alfred bought 2 Mar 1853 the NW 1/4 of the SW 1/4 of Section 23, and the SW 1/4 of the SW 1/4 of Section 13.  You should be able to find online maps showing exactly where those parcels lie.  I think the term is cadastral survey, but memory could fail.  County plat maps still use the same system, and the County Assessor's office probably lists the current ownership and use.
