Dear WikiTree Colleagues,

My Mum, Carolyn (George) Baldwin died about 1 hour ago. She was 97 years of age. I want to thank all of you these past several months for your support and concern as our family worked through her Alzheimer's, and these past three weeks her transition into the next life.

Pip, Cindy, Corinne, Jo, Brad, Raewyn and so many others (all of you), the Weekend Chats and doing the activities on WikiTree with the England Team, PGM, etc. have kept me sane and engaged throughout this process with mum's decline. Even the Thon this past weekend kept me active in between video-phone chats for 'grief work' with family at mum's bedside during her hospice care.

As you can imagine and many of you know, my work on Our Tree will be sporadic for a bit as arrangements are being made, including for my travel to Wisconsin for the memorial.

Thank you all so much for your support. Carol

Hi John, thank you and Kathy both for your kind words.
Susan Laursen, you are one of my most ardent WikiTree supporters and I love you for it! Thank you so much for your condolences and all of your kindnesses on WikiTree over the past several years. You are a dear!
I'm very sorry for your loss, Carol.
Carol, I know from all your posts about her on the Weekend Chat that your mother was a lovely person. I'm so very sorry for your loss. Prayers for you and your family.

Others have already said what I would say, so just know you and yours are in my thoughts.

(I watched my children's grandmother go downhill from this terrible disease, so I do know how hard it can be.)

My sympathies and thoughts are with you. I lost my mum just over a year ago, a mixture of alzheimers and other health issues. It's not easy!
So sorry for your loss.  Debbie
@Hi Leandra, thank you for your kind words.
@Nelda, I will be on the chat this Friday. Your comments are always enjoyable for me to read. It has been a long struggle for mum. While her suffering is over, the grief-work of her death begins. Thank you for your kind thoughts.
@Hi Melanie, It is a terrible disease and causes so much suffering for the sufferer and the family. Thank you for your support. Love the little emojis.
@Gill, thank you so much for your support. Alzheimer's is a terrible disease and my heart goes out to you and yours and anyone who has to watch this very slow, very painful decline.
@Debbie Root, thank you for your kind words, Debbie.

Hi Cousin Mark. We can use all of the familial affection that we can get. You are such a joy.
I, too, lost my mom to Alzheimer's, I was fortunate that my sister was there, for my mom, and that my brother was able to navigate the details of the estate, I was entirely devastated and devoured by grief.

I am so sorry, Carol. My Mom had Alzheimer's so I know the journey you and your family have taken along with your Mom. I wish peace and healing for you and I am glad you know that your WikiTree family will always be here for you.

Hi Ginny, I so enjoy your posts on the Chat. It seems that once one discloses a death due to complications of Alzheimer's so many others tell me of their families' with loved ones with Alzheimer's and related dementias. It is a struggle as you well know. For me, the support of family and friends, including WikiTree family has gotten me through the worst of times in order to appreciate better the best of times. Thanks so much!

I lost my mother to Alzheimer's so I know what a terrible disease it is.  My mother lived 12 years from her diagnosis until her death.  It is very difficult to watch a vibrant person decline with this terrible disease.  My very deepest condolences to you, your family and loved ones.

Hi Carol, thank you so much for your kind words. Please see what I just wrote above to Virginia Fields. Alzheimer's is not for the faint of heart! It is devastating to watch a person visibly decline to someone we no longer recognize. My sincere condolences to you as well for what you went through.
Carol, Thanks for your kind words.  The support of family and friends are the best things people can have who are dealing with a loved one who has Alzheimer's.  It is a terrible disease that hopefully one day will have a cure.

My sincere sympathies, Carol. I know you said time was drawing near, but for it to be confirmed and final is pretty rough. Hang on to the good old memories. She was there when you were born. She was there with you. And a part of her will always be with you. You are a living part of her. And you are a beautiful soul.  If you want me to call, let me know.

I’m so sorry for your loss, Carol. I’m sure your mother was an amazing person, and you’ll miss her a lot.
by Leila Keller G2G6 Mach 1 (18.7k points)
Hi Leila, thank you for your note. My mum was a trip! She was on a first name basis with Bart Starr, went to the first 'Ice Bowl', won $43K at Bingo a number of years ago, and was the best chocolate turtle maker in the world. I guess 'amazing' would be a proper word for her.
