Technical Merge Issues [closed]

Something appears to be malfunctioning in the merge process. When I have the merge screen showing, clicking on an item in the left hand profile (for example) can end up leaving the same item checked in the right hand column. For example, on Jennison-425 and Jennison-2, I wanted to remove the parents of -425 when merged them, but I could not do so. It would also not let me just select text from one of the profiles or the other, but left both there, despite my attempt to not do so. (I went ahead with this merge and made adjustments afterwards.)

On a different merge, Stream-83 and Stream-9, it will not let me click on the right hand profile to change the end result to be what is shown in that profile (example, the birth date won't change). It also will not let me select just one of the profile's text entries, but keeps the merged text. (I didn't complete this merge.)

Today is the first time I have seen this issue, and it is a problem.

I looked at the Stream merge and it was working fine for me, and no changes were made to the merge process recently. Some questions to narrow down the problem --

- What device are you using?

- What browser are you using?

- Do you have any browser extensions for WikiTree installed?

I am using a Dell laptop, Windows 10, up-to-date, Chrome browser. I had (but have removed and restarted PC since) the WikiTree AGC extension. I have a McAfee webadvisor, but that is not new.

After restarting my PC a couple of times, I tried the Stream merge again, and it still will not adjust the column for New Stream-9 when I click any of the radio buttons.

I should mention that before I restarted my PC the last time, I cleared my WikiTree cookies. I also just went in and cleared my browser cache, then quit Chrome and relaunched it. Still the same issue
It sounds like maybe the javascript isn't working for you on that page.

Did you recently change anything on https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:Settings?

Are Javascript-related features working elsewhere on the site? Like the popups when you hover over a profile link, or the "Alternative View" or "Sharable Image" on the connection finder?

Thanks, Jamie.

I haven't changed any of those settings in a long time. The pop-ups are working. I was able to generate a shareable image from the connection finder.

The problem is continuing. It really hinders my ability to merge profiles....

Thank you.

Just for fun, I tried doing the merge using Microsoft Edge browser on the same laptop, but still the same problem.

However, I just tried doing it on my Iphone, and it let me switch the radio buttons.

So, there must be a setting or something on my laptop that is goofing it up.
Try chrome settings, search for javascript chrome://settings/content/javascript?search=javascript and make sure it's enabled, maybe it got turned off or turned off for wikitree.
That could be it, Brad. Even tho Chrome was set to allow sites to execute Javascript, I specifically set WikiTree up to be able to do so and now I can click on the radio buttons, effecting a change to the New column.

Thank you!
Thanks Brad, and S, I'm glad it's working now!
