Pennsylvania Research Help

I've been trying to make our wikitree profiles for this immigrant family the most accurate/well-sourced ones on the web. I've been to many of my local libraries (Austin, Texas area) and have had some success but obviously they aren't geared toward this specific topic very well.

I found a set of giant books that list many of these immigrants by name and give a source for each listing. For Hans Georg Hechler's 1754 immigration, the listings are identical to those I've already been able to review---with one exception! This one has an added note "WITH 5 CHILDREN". I can't find a copy of this source in the libraries or on-line and hope that someone in the Pennsylvania area has access to it.

The source is A list of German immigrants to the American colonies from Zweibruecken in the Palatinate, 1750-1771 by Krebs, Friedrich Yoder, Don (Donald Herbert) more info here  The specific reference to Hans George Hechler is on page 178 of that article.

If anyone can view that and relay exactly what it says, I would be extremely grateful!

Got this from a former Wikitree'r,

Hi Nick:

The catalog entry at familysearch.org indicates that the article you are looking for is a translation of a German article. A PDF of the German article can be found at https://www.zufallsfunde.net/Medien/Auswanderer-Zweibruecken-1750-1771.pdf. Because this has been OCR'd, you can use Google Translate to render it into English if you cannot read German.

In essence, this list is based on a file of the "manumissions" (that is, governmental permissions to emigrate because all local obligations have been satisfied) for the principality of Zweibrücken for the years 1750-1771. The file indicates that Görg Hechler of Ingolsheim (now in France, just east of Birlenbach, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ingolsheim) received permission in 1754 to emigrate with his 5 (unnamed) children. The author of the article then linked this entry with the arrival in Philadelphia of Georg Hechler 30 September 1754 on the ship Neptune.

This information kind of clouds things--all other sources point to Georg arriving on 14 Sep 1754 on the Barclay. I also note that some of the other entries list "mit Frau und 6 Kindern" or "mit Weib" and Georg is just with his children.....

I appreciate the response X!

Since you have a specific citation, you might be able to get a copy by contacting the Family History Library. I believe they have a copy service for limited copies of materials.
