It appears he was in the 106th New York Co. C. The obit says Co. A. Mentions brother Frank. The record says “deserted, on expiration of furlough, February 15, 1864, at Grants Hospital, New York”

He has a wonderful obit. Need some collaboration ironing out the details.

Thank you

Note: Does he have a cemetery or memorial?

Also, did you see that the listing at https://dmna.ny.gov/historic/reghist/civil/rosters/Infantry/106th_Infantry_CW_Roster.pdf - lists a Francis Dana, also in the 106th?  Maybe the brother?

Yes. I believe they are brothers. The obit mentions a brother Frank who served in the same Company.  The obit says Co. A but it’s apparent it’s actually Co. C

Yes. They were brothers confirmed in the obit of the brother river boat captain Frank Dana he Ogdensburg journal., April 17, 1905, Page 4, Image 4

The father joined the boys in the war also! A great obit of the family history

On the card that is posted on his profile it says he is buried at St. Mary's perhaps where he died in Ogdensburg.  I have looked but there is no listing for him there, although the cemetery does say that it only lists those with headstones.

Oh boy so anyone there with no headstone isn’t listed. That’s interesting. Good thing for obits and records!
That is what the cemetery website says.  At least there are some records, we have many cemeteries with no records or headstones.
