Hi!
I am 37, I was born in Laurinburg, NC (Scotland County). I was adopted and raised in Georgia. My maternal Grandmothers name was Dorothy Lee McLaurin and her fathers name may have been John McLaurin. I am trying to find more information on the origin of my surname. I am black, so I was wanting to find out the connection and how it came to be (my surname). Incidentally, my fathers last name is McLaughlin (his family is from Clio, SC).
I know there has to be some history here and I would love to know the story or even just a general history of how so many blacks ended up with "Mc" surnames in North Carolina (during my whole time living in GA, I did not encounter any other black person with the "Mc" prefix). I am fascinated by history. Thank you!
