I  am connected to Elizabeth Hardwick for 17 degrees by one marriage connection.

We are also 5ht cousins, 18 times removed.  Nearest ancestor: Elizabeth Cheyne.

Still can’t figure the degree thing. 

Elizabeth Hardwick (abt.1527-1608)and Lynden (Raber) Rodriguez are third cousins 13 times removed, and are both descendants of Marine (Beler) Griffin (aft.1416-1489)

Degree thing is how many steps away as shown on the connection to me finder rather than what ancestor is shared, relationship finder.

Different but reminds me of a common saying we are all within so many steps of one another just by who we know! But can't remember how many.

Just stumbled in this when looking for something else. Apparently I am the 12th great grandaughter of Elizabeth Hardwick. Through her daughter Frances Cavendish who married Henry Pierrepont.  Never knew any of this, so all very interesting!

Back in September 2021 she was my 4th cousin 14 times removed, at 17 degrees. I have just checked, and now it's 18 degrees, however, she is my 3rd cousin 16 times removed, both descendants of Thomas Chaworth.
