I don't have much experience of the Australian records, can anyone help me looking for a source for  [[Leighton-2692|George Scott Leighton]] who probably lived in New South Wales, his son died in 1943 in Papua New Guinea.

I think he was the son of James Leighton [[Leighton-2410|James Leighton (abt.1834-abt.1926)]]  but can't prove it.
WikiTree profile: George Leighton

Annie Florence Hewett married George Scott Leighton in 1903.

George Scott Leighton's parents, as listed on his death registration in 1960, were James Scott Leighton, and Esther  Ann (no last name is given on the index).

James Scott Leighton's father, as listed on the registration of his death, was Archibald R - no mother listed, and the R could be an error of transcription.
I changed the Family Search citation for James's burial, because those go nowhere, to the actual Find a Grave citation.

I have not found a marriage for him yet.  Do you know what year he emigrated?
I've added the precise date of birth & death for George and added a ref for his marriage to Annie. There were a shed-load of kids! (not added)

Hi Trevor. This looks like a birth reference, somewhat earlier than you estimated.

<ref>[https://familyhistory.bdm.nsw.gov.au/ New South Wales Births, Deaths and Marriages] birth registration number 867/1875. Name: George Scott Leighton; father: James S; mother: Esther Ann; district: Sydney. Accessed 1 September 2021.</ref>

Here's the 1960 death reference Melanie mentioned:

<ref>[https://familyhistory.bdm.nsw.gov.au/ New South Wales Births, Deaths and Marriages] death registration number 5635/1960. Name: George Scott Leighton; father: James Scott; mother: Esther Ann; district: Campsie. Accessed 1 September 2021.</ref>

Unfortunately NSW birth and death references never give the mother's last name at birth (unless you pay for a copy of the certificate).
Thank you

Link to the death registrations search, rather than the search index.

Likewise marriages - and births

I always link to the front page, in the hope that it is less likely to change. It also helps people to find any of the three kinds of search in the web page title ("Births, Deaths and Marriages") without having to click "Home".

I link to the specific search to make it easier for the person to add the reg# etc.  cheeky

I have had no success looking for a marriage for James and Esther.  FeeBMD is giving me nothing.

Thank you for all your help

Found it!

James Scott Leighton married Esther Ann Fletcher in 1868.

Give me a few minutes to manipulate the system, and I'll  have the actual date.

I added the marriage citation to James's profile.

When looking for his emigration / immigration, you're going to need to check New Zealand first.

Posted this on his son  Lancelot's profile: He was born in Chatsworth and Anne Florence Leighton lived there so a possible tie up.

Added some more details to Lancelot's war memorial details and updated his birth and death details.

Also came across this with regard to Annie Florence Leighton late of Chatsworth, NSW.
