Clarissa Jones was born on November 28, 1832 in Pennsylvania, United States. Her parents were Thomas Jones and Lydia Rainear. She married John Dye. She served as an Army nurse during the American Civil War. She died on May 03, 1921.

She is a notable see here on Wikipedia. We need help sourcing her with her marriage record, birth or death record and any facts we can research to help build her genealogy profile and hopefully get her parents connected.

Thank you

Note: can we add her photo I believe the library of Congress has a photo that’s able to be used but I can’t find it or the sourcing

You can add the category -- [[Category:Nurses, United States Civil War]]

You could also add an occupation sticker, as was done for several other nurses of the era.  If you need help with the image, just ask.
Hi Melanie, I have added the category but not sure where the occupation sticker would be?

Mary Bickerdyke has an occupation sticker, using a crop of an image of her.

I did a number of sticker-sized images for nurses of that era.

Thank you for helping. I wonder if she had any children. It doesn’t appear she did but adopted her sisters when she passed in 1864

There is a suggestion on Ancestry that John H Dye first married Emily De Camp in 1854 and after her death in 1872 he married Clarissa (or Carisse) in 1873. No mention of her being married before.

Thanks Marion it’s the only birth source except Wikipedia I’ve seen of her exact birth date a huge help and excellent sourceyes

Their is a gravestone identical to his with the inscription Emily  was his wife and she died in 1872. See her FindAGrave

John H. Dye is also a notable see Wikipedia

A good video by the Nation Museum of Civil War Medicine titled “Clara Jones A Forgotten Civil War Nurse”  YouTube

Added a pic of Clarissa's Baptism record, which also lists her birth date.  She was baptized at St Stephen's Episcopal Church in Philadelphia, PA.  She and her parents are in Philadelphia census records and a Philadelphia Episcopal church.  I would assume she was born in Philly as well.
