I found a death certificate but the dates don't match the date on his gravestone. Here's the link:

"Canada, Ontario Deaths, 1869-1937 and Overseas Deaths, 1939-1947," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JK8T-KJ3 : 2 March 2021), John Archie Mcfadyen, 28 Mar 1891; citing Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada, 19868, Registrar General. Archives of Ontario, Toronto; FHL microfilm 1,853,539.

Sometimes gravestones are inaccurate. This one looks like a family cenotaph, ie a memorial for the entire family whether they are buried there or not. So there's even more likely that mistakes could have been made.

It is possible that he died in Toronto in 1891.
