New member seeking help with my brickwall Lancelot Glover d.1672

Hello,

I am a long time researcher of 40+years and a new member to Wikitree and I'm seeking help with my "brickwall" one Lancelot Glover (senior) who died Wakefield, Yorkshire in 1672. Some trees give his birth as 1579 but none provide a source for it's basis. Another tree has a Lancelot as a son of Robert Glover the Somerset Herald (1544-1588) but no source is given for this information. Searches in the parish registers have failed to find a baptism entry. He seemingly has just "materialized" and I'm starting to think that he must be Merlin's love child . Any help or advice will be gratefully received.

Thank-you for your interest

Yes, I confirm that he is my person of interest, and that I'm aware of that marriage. It's his birthplace and baptism that has always eluded me.

Since you mentioned in your reply to one of the other answers that he married in 1657, that would seem to rule out the Lancelott Glover baptised on 3 November 1644 in Wakefield, Yorkshire (https://www.freereg.org.uk/search_records/5817aa0ce93790eca3aa07f1).

Have you considered the Lawncelot Glover baptised on 25 May 1629 in Wakefield, Yorkshire (https://www.freereg.org.uk/search_records/5817aa22e93790eca3aa3139)?

There is also a Wakefield baptism 30th Dec 1632, spelling Lawrencelot, father also Lawrencelot.

https://www.freereg.org.uk/search_records/5817aa17e93790eca3aa1f54/lawrencelot-glover-baptism-yorkshire-west-riding-wakefield-1632-12-30

There is a 1655 marriage for a ‘Lanclot’ in Wakefield (is the groom identified as being from Wakefield on the Newcastle marriage?) https://www.freereg.org.uk/search_records/5818852ce93790eb7ffc056b/alice-levens-lanclot-glover-marriage-yorkshire-west-riding-wakefield-1655-09-04

(The 1644 Lancelot, son of Robert, was buried 31st May 1655 (as Lanclot), so can be ruled out of any later entries.)

Another Lancelot Glover is having children baptised in Wakefield in the early 1600s.There are lots of shared names amongst the Wakefield Glovers, so it may be possible to hazard a guess at some relationships?

(There is also a 1634 burial for a Lawrencelotus Glover, who could possibly be the father of the 1632 child? Or an earlier person?)

Thank you for your interest, and the references, which are most helpful because they parallel and confirm my findings. Yes, the shared names are really not helpful, and the building of family groups is also further complicated by the fact that mother's are never named in the baptismal records, .....sadly they're only named when they marry, or are buried. The Wakefield Manor records of 1609 mention Henry, Lancelot, and Thomas Glover being fined for not filling in their clay pits in the Outwood of Wakefield. Perhaps the 3 were brothers, what can be said is that they are the progenitors of the Wakefield Glover's who were to become wealthy "cuppers" aka potters.
