Why do so many ancestry trees say her maiden name was Dingman?

Elsje Alice Cornelise (wife of John Woodcock) is often said to be daughter of Gerhard Dingman.   The following doesn't seem to me to be a reason to say she is daughter of Gerhard Dingman: "Placing Alice as a daughter of Gerhard because John Woodcock and Gerhard Dingman were witnesses of each other's Loyalist Claims - per Burleigh Papers." I would think her father's first name should be Cornelius.

When one or two trees on any site enter a piece of information, others tend to copy it into their trees without any research; thus it multiplies even if not correct. All that can be done is try to enter the correct information and enter a source. Even so, many will never correct the wrong info in their tree.

There are "Collectors" and "Researchers" and there is really not much we can do to remedy it.

I am not sure but there are a number of trees on other sites that do not.  Geni, Ancestry, Family search and private family trees.
