My name is Paul BLACK and I live in Ontario, Canada. I am a senior citizen and an amateur genealogist and have been researching my BLACK family for about eight years or so. I am 5th generation Canadian and have ancestors in Ulster and Family Lore says Co. Sutherland, Scottish Highlands.

BLACK, Thomas Henry b. 1789 came from Ireland to in 1821 - before Canada was born. Both Ireland and Scotland are brick walls at the moment.

I have recently had a serious computer crash. I am attempting to rebuild my genealogy files at the moment, so I do not have a GEDCOM to offer yet

Stay safe. Good hunting to all.

Welcome to WikiTree, Paul. You have come to what I think is the best place on the internet to work together to form one large tree. Be sure to let your Greeter know if you have any questions about how to upgrade.  I'm going to add a couple of tags to get the attention of others who might be researching the Black family in those locations.

Having experienced data loss from computer crashes, you have my deepest condolences.

I look forward to seeing your twig grow within the branches of WikiTree.
We don't necessarily like Gedcom loads, manual process can work well to make sure profiles are sourced properly, which is what we like on wikitree,

Welcome to WikiTree Paul! It's good to have you aboard.

We have some fantastic projects here, perhaps you'd like to take a look at the Scotland or Ireland projects. To find projects hover your mouse over the little menu bar at the very top right of your screen over the word "Find", lower your mouse down the dropdown list that appears and click on "projects". When you find a project that you'd like to learn more about click on its clickable heading and you will be taken to the projects page where you can read all about it. Many project pages have links to some great resources. We also have this fantastic tool called RootsSearch which autofills the details for your ancestor right from their profile pages and you can search up to 20 websites.

I hope you grow to love WikiTree as much as I do! See you around'

Welcome, Paul!  I hope that you enjoy WikiTree as much as I have.  I have ancestors in Ontario too.  My most recent family was in Niagara Falls and I suspect that my tree branches out into other parts of the province as we go back.  Everyone here is very friendly and helpful.  If you ever have a question, just post it here in G2G.  Cheers~Betsy
