deja vu all over again re tiny bug in image uploads

Question

Regularly, my email alerts me that someone has commented on my comment.  Usually it is about something recent and ongoing, and i recognize the conversation right away. I love the email alert.

Every once in a while, however, the preview of the comment makes no sense, and when i look further, it seems to be caused by someone adding to this question: https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/140877/did-you-get-a-duplicate-image-warning-message-in-error?show=1214372#c1214372

I think they are adding to it because the instructions regarding problems uploading images/getting duplicates tells them to post something to that question.

I am always surprised to be back in that same conversation, and i just saw this morning via another comment in the chain that someone else is also a little puzzled and confused by the communication.

It is confusing; it would seem that everyone who has had this problem in the past 6 years will be advised every time someone else has the problem.

Could the instructions be updated in some way - maybe to start a new chain on this, just to drop those of us from the first 5 years out of the conversation?

I agree, Shirlea, but have a practical temporary fix to offer.  If you go to your comment and edit it, you don't have to make any changes, but you should have an opportunity to uncheck the box that says "Email me if a comment is added after mine".

Maybe we need a specific G2G Help page, explaining all the stuff available here ... like that the big grayed out plus at top right is to add something to your favorites, explanation of what flags are for, advice about up/down votes, the meaning/use of the icons in the tool bar, how to select appropriate tags, advice about entering profile id when appropriate for a question, as well as the availability of that little checkbox selection for email notifications.
