This Heugh and his wife Mary Stewart have a daughter Catherine.

Catherine's profile looks like a clear duplicate with this other Catherine, who is also a daughter of a couple named Heugh Cameron and Mary Stewart.

However, the two fathers do not seem to be the same person.  One is from West Lothian and the other is from Perthshire.

So maybe there are two separate couples called Heugh Cameron and Mary Stewart who had a daughter Catherine. (Even writing that, i'm going Yes, of course, there are probably a dozen family groupings of the right age with those same names.)

So maybe the task is to figure out which Heugh and Mary get the Catherine with all the vital stat information.

Can anyone suggest how to tell which Catherine has the right info?

Cheers

There is a OPR baptismal record for Katherine Cameron to be found on Scotlandspeople. In the parish of Carriden which is in West Lothian, Katherine daughter of Heugh Cameron and Mary Stewart was baptised on 23/10/1722. Scotlandspeople website is the first place to go to for Scottish record. All the others are just transcriptions or worse.

A good place to start might be FamilySearch trees, where they seem to have a well-documented tree of this family, particularly the Catherine (Cameron) Menzies branch - https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/sources/KHZ3-PWD

What I believe happened here is that the two Heugh's are the same Heugh, but that people put in different unevidenced guesstimates as to where he was born. I would check the history of each page and peer over their current citations to make sure, though.

The West Lothian birth seems to just be inferred from the birth of Catherine Cameron in West Lothian per the baptism record. The Perthshire birth, well I have no clue. Actually, I take that back. It's from this ancestry tree here - https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/tree/163416583/family/familyview?cfpid=132129783223&selnode=1. Hopefully that link works, but if it doesn't, it's Anthony Hare's "McDougall Menzies 1750" tree.

The record that the Perthshire seems to be coming from is a 1773 survey of inhabitants that found a Catherine Cameron in Perth, Scotland. I don't have the time to read the record in detail, but I think that would be a good starting point to find out whether Perthshire is a justified birth location.
Thanks!  Of course it is also possible that the birth info and the marriage info are not for the same person....I'm not skilled at all in Scottish research.  I just ended up here because i noticed the seeming duplicate profiles for Catherine on a list.  I'm sort of hoping someone is an expert and will take it from here....
