I have uploaded my family tree, as far as I can go with it. The line I am pursuing now is the paternal line, through my father Patrick Kavanagh and my grandmother Bridget Mitchell, my great grandfather Charlie Mitchell and my great great grandfather George Washington Moore. We are a showbusiness family that goes back generations and covers circus as well as theatre. George Moore was the founder of the Moore and Burgess Minstrells in 1865 and his daughters married men they met through Moore, including my great grandmother Victoria, who married Charlie mitchell (the boxer) - George managed Charlie's career.
My grandmother Bridget was the youngest child of these two, and she married an Irish showman and actor, Patrick Joseph Kavanagh. Their four sons all became actors, singers and musicians, and my father, Patrick Michael, became a sharpshooterm in the 50s and performed an act with my mother Marie. I have uploaded pictures of my ancestors.
With such a strong show business tradition, you'd think i would have trod the boards as well, but I only did that for a few years and then followed my true calling - as a writer. But my daughter Lucia inherited all the showbiz genes and is a singer with a band.
I'd love to connect with anyone who is able to fill in some gaps for me, and share what we know. My biggest brick wall at the moment is my great uncle Charles Alexander Mitchell, Charlie's eldest son, who died in the first world war at Arras in 1917. I have some military information for him, but I know he was a performer in the music hall before the war. He was enrolled in the 24th (sportsmans) Fusiliers with other performers and athletes. I would love to know more about his stage career, and maybe even find a photo, as there isn't one in the family - so much was lost in the WWII air raids.
