Hi George!

Getting the Best from DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.

Hope that helps!

Hello George,

Thank you for indicating in WikiTree that you have tested with 23andMe.

Please register at GEDmatch.com and follow their directions to upload your 23andMe results there.  Then add your GEDMatch ID at

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:DNATests .

Also at that WikiTree page, under “Add New Test Information”, select that you have taken an "Other yDNA" test.

In the y-chromosome haplogroup field enter your paternal haplogroup as reported by 23andMe (it is found under 23andMe’s “Ancestry” tab).  In the "Optional space for additional information" field enter that your paternal haplogroup was reported by 23andMe and include the approximate date you tested with 23andMe.  Adding an Other yDNA test will allow WikiTree to automatically associate your Y chromosome (i.e. paternal)  haplogroup with your direct paternal line.

Also, here is a short video which shows you how to let your 23andMe matches see your ancestral tree in WikiTree: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OerZbCUrn0U

However you need to also add your ancestry to WikiTree (and hopefully connect to your earlier ancestry already in WikiTree) to make the above information useful.

I welcome any questions.  Most sincerely, Peter

Hi George,

if I do understand your question right you want to register a 23andMe DNA with your own profile (or someone else's profile of whom you're a manager).

This is relatively easy, please head over to https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:DNA_Features where all information is listed.

There is no feature or need to upload your raw DNA data to WikiTree. At WikiTree you add the company where you've taken your DNA test and which type (eg. an autosomal DNA test - that would be the one for 23andMe).

You enter it here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:DNATests

Now if you want to get more out of your 23andMe DNA test then you can upload it to GEDmatch (as Peter mentioned) or also use Your DNA family an app that does automatic triangulation, gives you dedicated discussions forums to work with DNA matches on identifying your common ancestors and many more features than I can list here.

To see our app and it's features, please watch the following video

Hope this helps!
