Hi all!

This week's Connection Combat is between two of the greats of 20th century science fiction:

Isaac Asimov

vs.

Ray Bradbury (although he felt his only work of science fiction was Fahrenheit 451)

Rules are here, and connections count for Note-vember points. These guys need biographies, too. Good luck!

Working on Ray Bradbury - there's a lot of questionable research I'm having to sift through to figure his tree, although it's starting to bear fruit. His wife is supposedly connected in some way to the founder of McClure's Magazine, but I haven't found that connection yet. She's also supposed to be connected to the guy who invented the mechanism to keep train cars connected, but I haven't found that either. Ray's Bradbury ancestors are full of incorrect research and some of it obviously incorrect, but I'm hoping I've cleared up some of the main issues now. Still haven't found a valid connection yet, but working on it.

Alright! - Ray Bradbury should be connected as soon as all the connections clear through the system. One of his daughters married a Willey, which carried up to the 1600's to a connection already established. A couple of accidental duplicate profiles created (unfortunately) but merges proposed. I think it takes overnight for the connection to AJ to show up, but I'll check it later and see where we stand.
Nice work!!!

Woo - Isaac is a bit of a challenge. Between the Soviet Union roots and the variants on the anglicized names, it's a new world for me for rooting through the data that's available. I've made some progress, but nothing that allows a connecting branch as of yet. Still a number of ancestors to sort through and anyone who might have some experience with this sort of research can feel free to jump in at any time - I'm not possessive. :)

He has some sad ancestors, too - some that appear to be clearly impacted by World War II, as several Jewish lines appear cut off almost altogether around 1941. I'll keep poking around, as I've found some interesting sites that document Jewish ancestry and appear to go fairly far back. There's a link hidden in here somewhere - just need a bit more effort and I'm sure I'll find it.
OK - I've entered a signifcant number of profiles, and so far no connections to the existing tree. However, there might be a light at the end of the tunnel. Asimov's 2nd wife appears to be connected in some way to a familysearch family from Utah. I can only hope that they're connected in some way to the Mormons, as they keep very good records. Initial looks at familysearch show good promise, although a quick glance at wikitree didn't give me an immediate match. I'll have to work the Jeppson angle and maybe something will turn up. At the very least, there are now a lot more Asimov/Ozimov's and Berman's in the tree now...
Holy smokes - what a journey... but I think I finally managed to find not one but two links that might do the trick. Unfortunately, both profiles for the links were locked so I'm waiting for confirmation from the profile owners. Give it a couple of days, and we'll see if this worked.

I can definitely say with some certainty that Azimov/Ozimov's family is currently a bit of a dead end. The records on Russia are spotty at best, and the website I was able to use for much of the connections never bore fruit. But Azimov's 2nd wife was Mormon, and it appears there are a number of opportunities there for connections.
Sorry all - apparently the two connections I requested haven't been responded to, and I've added several more branches without a breakthrough. The Jeppson line through the early days of the Mormons has a lot of promise to link up AJ via marriage to his 2nd wife, but no connections yet. I might still get there (eventually), but it's going to take some additional branches before something comes through.
I think just "maybe" I've got a connection now through James Taylor [[Taylor-4759]]. Got to wait through the overnight cycle to see if it works out. Keep your fingers crossed...
Success! I can now confirm that Asimov is connected to AJ and the tree.
OK - Finally got all the sources documented for his connection to AJ - and documented his bio as well as I could. Since there are literally several books documenting his life story, I had to summarize as best I could.
