The image for John Humphrey Page is a clip from the document nominating him for an O. B. E. Order of the British Empire awarded in 1967

Part of the form asks for information about previous awards, he was awarded the Military Cross for his bravery etc in Korea and I have the all the docs from the British National Archives for that.

I can't figure out what it says on the second line M then what awarded for his service in Cyprus in 1958.

Thank you!

Do you know if there is anyway to find the record of his ' mention in dispatches?

You are welcome, M.

According to the Wikipedia article, the dispatches are published in the London Gazette.

I could locate the 30-9-1958 issue. In the column at the right hand side in page 5974, there is a list "Mention in Dispatches" for distinguished service in operations in Cyprus (under ADMIRALTY). Could not find John H Page in the list. There is also a supplement to the 30-9-1958 issue, Could not find his name there either.

Probably, I am missing something else, or date is not accurate.

Found him, M !!

Supplement to The London Gazette 26-9-1958

At the bottom of page 5953 and top of page 5954 (Under WAR OFFICE).

"The QUEEN has been graciously pleased to approve that the following names be mentioned, in recognition of gallant and distinguished services in Cyprus for the period 1st January to 30th June 1958:"

...

Maj. J. H. Page, M.C. (251684) R.E.

...

Thanks again, looking at the newspaper on your link, it says MID for services from Jan 1- June 30th 1958, so I assume publication of his MID would have been later.

Was that on the London Gazette website? I will try to find it

Here is the link to the page in "The London Gazette" website:

Maj. J. H. Page is in the first line.

Thanks! He was my dad's first cousin, the families were very close and I am in touch with his grandchildren my second cousins who live in New Zealand.

He was an amazingly modest man, I have letters from him and from his dad-who lost both his legs in WW1-plus some marvelous photos that I will post after discussing it with the other family members.
