What do I do

I joined this person to my tree, she’s the right person belongs to the family etc. however, all of the Sources are just pointing to the bottom of the page, a couple of them are pointing to an Ancestry tree.

I’ve found some on Family Search and want to add them so others an access them but I’m unsure as how to incorporate them into the existing profile.

Amy suggestions?

I would just copy and paste a Family Search source right down at the bottom - below all the ancestry sources.

That is what I always do when I find these kinds of profiles.

Oops I forgot - these sources are inline.

so you can just paste the Fam search source after the Sources section, it will automatically show up at the bottom!!

Won’t it conflict what’s on there already or no.
No - there is NO conflict
Thanks
To you the source section looks empty in edit mode.
When you see the private or public view, that fam search source will be right at the bottom!!  Inline sources are always above the copy and pasted sources.

I see there are already sone pasted sources - just paste your FS source below those

I was adding a part in the notes section saying who her parents were and putting the sourced marriage in there. I went to save what I had typed in and someone else had edited it already. Took out all of Ancestry stuff. Now whatfrown

Hopefully I didn't confuse the issue, but there were multiple references to the same 1900 and 1910 censuses. It needed a little gedcom junk cleanup. I just did it real quick, so hopefully it is not so confusing. There were also 3 references to AFT which I combined.

Ok lol I’m looking at it like ??? Lol. So should I just add the census so you can look at them? I have the marriage record as well. I was going to add it to the notes section with a small bio. I don’t want to take over the page just add some info.

Inline sources are easier than they appear. But they could use better explanation.

One constructs an inline source citation with three parts like this:

<ref name="a_unique_identifier">Your Usual Source Citation</ref>

  1. The reference tags <ref name="...">...</ref> which identify the information contained as a reference or citation.
  2. A unique identifier, a_unique_identifier, is a string of text that uniquely identifies the source citation. It's essentially giving a "name" to the citation, so you can refer to it later. For example, when I refer to a digital image froma  microfilm of an 1832 baptism registration in the Quebec Catholic Parish Registers on FamilySearch, I usually use a name such as "1832_bapt_QPR_FS", which is a little more descriptive than "ref_1".
  3. Then you just need Your Usual Source Citation, which is however you would normally cite a source. e.g. I do a lot of copying and pasting of FamilySearch citations, but for other sources, I have a personal style. If it was that 1832 baptism, I would just copy and paste the citation provided on the microfilm.

To cite that source, you can place it at the first place where you want the first reference to appear. There are some different schools of thought on this, and I would recommend doing whatever most greatly facilitates the process for you, because it's more important to use sources and link sources to facts than it is to follow the dictates of any style guide. Personally, nowadays I construct a source list at the head of each profile.

Then, for each subsequent time that I want to invoke or reference that source as supporting a fact, I use a slightly different format:

<ref name="a_unique_identifier"/>

Note the extra forward slash character (/) before the bracket. That tells WikiTree that you are only referring to a citation which you have made elsewhere on the same profile.

Here's an example profile that I started 2 weeks ago, should you like to see a worked example of what I'm talking about: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/St-Martin-60

I haven’t been able to figure out all of that yet. I just figured it should have something other than saying Ancestry as a source. The profile is also a few years old so maybe no one figured out the go around with things yet.

I'm in complete agreement on that.

And looks like you're getting the hang of it! And glad that you're adding publicly accessible sources to a profile. yes

In the Icons just above the Biography, if you select the 'C', it will add the <ref>  insert reference here  </ref>  into your profile where you were positioned and all you have to do is 'paste' the source citation over the 'insert reference here'.

It is easier to use that shortcut until you get used to it.  You can also select the 'Cite your source' wording at the end of the icons to do the same thing.

Hi Alice,

Have a look now.  I recreated it for you. (Sources with images are all inline and details  are there.) Hope that helps,

T.
