Father/Daughter relationship doesn't match info in bio: Thomas Godolphin

From the information given in the profile itself, the father/daughter relationship between Thomas and Margaret is not correct. The Visitations of the County of  Cornwall for the Godolphin family and Devon for the Dennis family say that Margaret Godolphin who married into the Dennis family was the daughter of a William Godolphin, not of Thomas. Thomas did have a daughter Margaret, apparently, but according to the Research Notes in the bio, Thomas' daughter Margaret married Sir Robert Verney as per the Peerage of England.

Would someone with knowledge please take a look? I'm just raising the point that the evidence presented in the profiles themselves is contradictory.

Editted to mention that the Godolphin family is in the Visitations for Cornwall while the Dennis family is in the Visitations for Devon.

Probably the Margaret who married Robert Dennis should be the daughter of this Godolphin man: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Godolphin-25

Shirlea, if you add the England tag to your question, it might attract attention from members with more experience in this area.
Great idea!  I've already reached the max number of tags.  Which do you think i should leave off?
Cornwall.
Thanks, Ros!  Done!

The Visitations are correct and there are other sources to confirm this. WikiTree has been wrong. I am now starting to work on the Godolphin family of this period, and some of their connections, on behalf of the England Project.

I have corrected the father, with sourcing.

Shirlea - were I working on this set of profiles, I'd back away and consult additional sources.

Visitations have been known to be inaccurate.  Published peerages have been known to be inaccurate. Where there seems to be an inconsistency, it can help to find a consensus in the sources.

This is a very prominent family, and there should be more information available than is shown in this profile.

Absolutely.  I actually have no interest in working on this profile.  I happened to notice 4 profiles for granddaughter Phillipa, and was hoping for a quick solution by merging, but noticed a few other inconsistencies such as this.  My G2G question here is in hopes of attracting the attention of someone who has some interest in working on this.
I saw your previous posts on the 4 daughters and notice that RJ Horace, who knows what is what, has set up an unmerged match.  I don't know why the merge hasn't been completed, but the 3 suspicious profiles are orphans.

From a cursory examination, I can see no reason that the other 3 shouldn't be merged into Dennys-3, but as you say, this isn't a case for a cursory examination to suffice.

This is an area where I'd be starting from scratch, so I hope someone (else) more familiar with the family might weigh in.
And Lo! So it has come to pass.  See comment on profile of Dennys-3.

Thanks! smiley
