Question about Charles Henry Trevanion ? Birth about 1834 England ? Cornwell

Charles Henry Trevanion was born in England. His mother was Lydia Francis and his father was Charles Henry Trevanion. According to CHTs Jr wedding certificate. I have no proof of this.

He married Sarah Groves in Bombala NSW 2 July 1863. I cannot fine the next step back to England.

CHT Jr moved to New Zealand with his mother and lived there up till he was 20ys old. His mother we beleive? married a Charles Grace a school master in early NZ history. Before all three moved to NSW when gold was found in about 1856. I cannot find a marriage certificate for Lydia and Charles Grace either. They travelled between NSW NZ Tassie and SA.

Our CHT Jr when he lived with Lydia and Charles Grace changed his name to Charles Henry Grace Jr. Which adds to the confusion. Can anyone help with this.

I want to know when Chair was born and where. And his parents names in England?

Hello

New South Wales Death Registration on Find My Past has his date of birth as 1837:

First name(s) Charles H
Last name Trevanion
Birth year 1837
Death year 1907
Registration year 1907
Age at death 70Y
Registration district Bombala
State New South Wales
Registration number 12878

I cannot find any trace of him (using all spelling variants) on the Cornwall Online Parish Clerk website so the Cornish-looking name is probably a red herring or has its roots further back in the family line,

Find a Grave has some details which may be worth checking out - it claims he was born at sea. There is a link to another site there: monaropioneers.com which I haven't checked out but might be worth exploring.

Hope this is of help.

Even born at sea births are supposed to be recorded somewhere .. but if it really was 1834, not 1837, it's less likely with any government registry.  The captain's log may have it recorded, though.

I've looked for a marriage and or baptism for his parents and can't find that either. I thought Lydia might be a good place to start as it is a more unusual name, but no luck. Sorry. sad

Hi ,I have been chasing this same problem also ,but I did find Lydia`s death certificate that said she was the wife of a school master .Do you think that Lydia is CHT`s natural mother ? I have a copy of CHT`s marriage certificate and it contains a few odd things ,At the top of the column marked fathers name ,mothers name and maiden name it has -Charles Henry Trevanion followed by Lydia Francis then John Groves and last Sarah White .I think you give the impression that there were two CHT`s is that so?

Some one has fielded the story that C H Trevanion snr married Lydia Francis ,her parents given as David and Eliza Francis (all dates given) and then they took a boat to New Zealand ,C H Trevanion jnr being born at sea off the Cape of Good Hope .I have found the birth of Lydia along with her brother .She was baptised by her father along with lots of other children ,he apparently was a minister .I then found her marriage in England, to a John Howard (widower) when she was 38 witnessed by her father David and mother Eliza. So the story is entirely false in my opinion ..
