Robert was born in 1864. He was the son of John McWhorter and Mary Ann Moren. He passed away in 1953.

He married Nettie Elizabeth Cockerham on 12 January 1902, in Carter, Oklahoma. Their children were Virgie Eva McWhorter (1903–1985), Vada Alice McWhorter (1904–2006) and Alta May 'Billie' McWhorter (1906–1993). They divorced by 1930.
