Alexander Grant bearing his father's name was born to Alexander Grant and Mary Fraser on 1 or 7 January 1825. In Scotland, the name Alexander often becomes Sandy.

Baptism was on 9 January 1825; in Cromdale Inverallen and Advie Inverness, Scotland; it reads- "Grant and Fraser- Alexander, son of Alexander Grant Sheriffs Officer, Grantown, by his spouse Mary Fraser; born 1 or 7; baptised 9 January 1825"

Marriage Record on the 16th day of April 1857 at Grantown. Marriage after Banns was solemnised between us according to the Forms of The Established Church of Scotland; signed Alexander Grant aged 31 years; Isabella Kemp 27 years. Alexander, a bachelor lived at Grantown; he was a woodcutter; his parents were Alexander Grant; Sheriff's Officer [deceased]; Mary Grant, Maiden name Fraser; signed by James Allan, Minister of Grantown; witness James Middleton and Elsie McIntosh. One named John Grant registered the event in Cromdale; 17 April 1857 [he could be the older brother of Alexander] Many named Grant were living in Grantown.

Married Isabella Kemp on16 April 1857 and they had six children named- Charles William Grant, Alexander Grant, George Grant, Elizabeth Grant, Isabella Grant and Francis [Frank] Grant.

Six children are confirmed in the newspaper Forres Elgin and Nairn Gazette; their names are- Charles William Grant, Alexander Grant, George Grant, Elizabeth Grant Isabella Grant and Francis [Frank] Grant.

Accidental death occurred on Wednesday May 6, 1868; buried at Inverallen Grantown on Spey, Scotland.

His accidental death is described in the newspaper as being Melancholy and Fatal and it occurred in the Goods Department of the new Forress Railway Station, Alexander was an employee of Messers Wordie and Company and he was engaged with his horse in shunting waggons.

On the next day Thursday May 7, 1868 his remains were followed to the railway station by a number of friends and he was then conveyed to Grantown; the native place of the deceased for burial.

Forres Elgin and Nairn Gazette published the accidental death one week later on Wednesday 13 May 1868.

Alexander was my GtGt Grandfather. His son Alexander married to Jane (nee Calder) were my Gt Grandparents and their son Richard, my Grandfather!
