There are a number of land grants for John, a few are noted below:
- on 8/11/1767 there was a memorial for James and John Abernathy for 200 acres on the "Saludy" River
- on 1/9/1786 John had a plat issued for 100 acres on Indian Creek, Craven Co SC, having been first surveyed on 12 Mar 1773.
- on 1/12/1787 John Abernathy sold 100 acres of land on Bush River to Isaac Toland, John's wife Rhoda Abernathy also signed the transaction
- on 21&22 February 1788 John and wife Rhoda sold 100 acres of land on Indian Creek to Dudly Bonds
- on 18 Feb 1805 John sold 227 acres of land to William Hunter; John's wife Rhoda signed and also relinquished her dower
John served in the American Revolutionary War and had a claim growing out of his service, File #7. John Abernathy served as a waggoner 180 days during the American Revolution.

There is a John Abernathy who has the same Date of Death listed on Find A Grave, memorial #52681522. There is a different year of birth and he was stated as born in Ireland. I removed the previous FAG source until confirmation can be made they are the same person.
