PHILIP ABBOTT, born at Andover, Massachusetts, 4 Oct 1749 son of John Abbott and Hannah Farnum;[1][2] Philip died at Andover, Maine, 4 May 1840[3] and is interred at Woodlawn Cemetery;[4] married at Andover, Massachusetts, 20 Nov 1771,[5] ELIZABETH FRYE, born at Andover, Massachusetts, 14 Jun 1751[6] daughter of Timothy Frye and Elizabeth Holton;[7] Elizabeth died at Andover, Maine, 11 Sep 1834[8] and is interred at Woodlawn Cemetery.[9]
Philip Abbott and Elizabeth Frye resided in Andover, Massachusetts until 1789 and were later in Andover, Maine. Philip kept a farm and was a cooper by trade.[10][11]
On 3 February 1789, Philip Abbot yeoman of Andover, Massachusetts with his wife Elizabeth, in consideration of £110, conveyed to Samuel Philips. Jr. his 67-acre property with dwelling house, barn, and other buildings.[12]
Philip Abbott had joined with the other early proprietors of what would become Andover, Maine on 1 September 1788 in the purchase of a township lying along the Ellis River, the property being eight miles long and six miles wide. The early settlers in Andover, Maine began development of their lots before they were officially assigned. Lot 10 was assigned to Philip Abbott on 23 January 1795. Philip Abbott and family resided in East Andover where he signed an agreement to contribute to the establishment of a library on 14 December 1795.[13]
In 1800, the family of Philip Abbot was enumerated at East Andover, York County with a household of seven persons: one male 45 and over, one female 45 and over, one male 10 to 15, two males 16 to 25, and two females 10 to 15.[14]
Although there is a NSSAR Patriot listing for this Philip Abbott, there is no known record of military service for him.
Philip Abbott and Elizabeth Frye were parents of nine children born at Andover, Massachusetts.[15]

v TIMOTHY ABBOTT, b. 25 Feb 1781; d. at Andover, ME, 11 Feb 1841; m. 1st about 1810, SARAH PILLSBURY, b. at Salisbury, NH, 12 May 1787 daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth (Pingry) Pillsbury; Sarah d. at Andover, 3 Apr 1816. Timothy m. 2nd at Salisbury, NH, 11 Mar 1819, HANNAH PINGRY, b. at Salisbury, 28 Jan 1786 daughter of Aquila and Hannah (Morrill) Pingry; Hannah d. at Andover, Mar 1870. Timothy did not have children. His estate was administered by his widow Hannah. The real estate was sold to settle the debts of the estate.[19]
