Hi Wikitreers,
Major General David Hunter was born in either Troy New York or at Washington D.C. however the data conflicts in this regard.
The excerpt found at civilwardata is very insightful “He was assigned, in Feb., 1861, to accompany President-elect Lincoln from his home in Springfield, Ill to Washington, but at Buffalo his collar- bone was dislocated by the pressure of the crowd that gathered to see Lincoin, and he did not arrive at Washington until May 14.”
Imagine the throngs of people coming out to see the president elect and the crowds must of been so pressing as I’m sure crowd control was not existent. I’m curious more about Lincoln’s visit that day in Buffalo.
The windows we still can see through into the past always amuses me!
Any collaboration in his Wikitree genealogy is appreciated
Thank you
