Why can't I add my own father to my profile? It's ridiculous and makes me HATE this site

What happens when you try?
I have to merge with the existing profile and it won't allow me to do so.  I signed the Honor Code. It appears my niece has entered him previously and it will not allow me to add him.  I've sent her a request to add me to her trusted list.  How are you supposed to contribute when you have to get permissions every time you try to add to your own tree?
(Removed this comment because it makes no sense now.  Apparently I missed something.)
Tried that too.  Why sign the Honor Code if you have to get permission every time you want to edit your own profile anyway?

You do not need permission to edit your own profile.  Your father is a separate person with a separate profile.
If the father has a high privacy settiing, nobody else but the profile manager is able to make connection. That is actually a good thing and exactly what is needed. You will need to wait for the merge to finish.

And you say you know the profile manager, so why not contact her directly? You've been a member for over 7 years, so a few days extra can't really be the issue.
Deanna, I think Herb's answer below and Michel's just above are good advice, and unless I'm confused, either approach might work:  Contact your niece directly rather than waiting for her to respond through WikiTree where apparently she is no longer active.  If for some reason you can't do that, then contact Admin ("info") and ask them to resolve the issue(s).

It looks like you’ve never signed the Honor Code and become a full member.  Once you do that you shouldn’t have a problem adding profiles.

Family members can add a limited number of profiles, see Membership help page

Signed it.  Still can't add. Another suggestion?

There are no edits for your profile to be seen. The only ones are from 2013. See your edit history.

Did you go to My Family Tree and hit the button "Father?". It shows me a plus sign to add your father. Just enter the details and save. Make sure to use the correct Last name at birth and add a proper source.

If your father already has a profile, you should contact the profile manager. If he does not, you will be creating a profile for him.

For more questions: contact your greeter.

Tip: remove the word written in FULL Capitals from your post, that might attract more friendly people to help you.

Your profile shows an unmerged match with Wilkey-838.  If that is a duplicate profile for you, it is correctly set to Unlisted Privacy, and only a member of its Trusted List can complete the merge.  Unfortunately, its Profile Manager never signed the Honor Code and hasn't made a contribution since 2013.  I suggest you send an e-mail to info at wikitree.com, and ask them to resolve the situation.  Ranting against the site for trying to protect your privacy and that of your living relatives will get you nowhere.

Edit to add:  If Wilkey-838 is a duplicate of you, and if it is connected to a profile of your father, then completing the merge with your member profile will automatically connect you to your father's profile.

I appreciate the answers but as others have noted, if you choose to answer, please do so and leave the snide comments out. I wasn't personally attacking anyone. It's an extremely difficult website and I'm no novice which makes it worse.  I've tried to merge and can't. I've tried to add my father without creating a duplicate because there is a an existing profile for him.  Everyone says you can collaborate but it's impossible when there's an existing profile you aren't allowed to use.
Wow, Herb, you had the whole answer and she didn't have the patience to even try it.  (I didn't think you were snide.)
I'm sorry Anon, but the title of your question, is that you HATE this site. I agree that no one should be answering in a snide manner. But they are responding to what they have read.

As for the issue you are having, the G2G community has helped with these kinds of problems over and over again. This problem can be looked after, it may require a little patience. But there are means for resolving these issues.
Ben, it looks to me like "anonymous" is gone.
Well, ... best I don't comment. But thank you Julie. Sad the way they handled this situation, which could have been resolved.

This appears to be one of the rare situations where it is acceptable to intentionally create a duplicate profile.  See #2 at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Duplicates#Is_it_ever_acceptable_to_intentionally_create_a_duplicate.3F:

Is it ever acceptable to intentionally create a duplicate?

There are two rare situations where it is acceptable to intentionally create a duplicate:

  1. If you (or a close family member) were adopted and you want to create a separate profile to explore your biological heritage without disconnecting yourself from your adoptive family. See Help:Adoptions and Multiple Parents.
  2. If Private or Unlisted profiles were created for your close family members and the Profile Manager is completely unresponsive and you are waiting for the profiles to be deleted after the former member's account is closed by the WikiTree Team.

Follow the unresponsive profile manager process at the link.  After you've followed the process and reported the unresponsive profile manager (UPM) to Wikitree management, it is acceptable to create a new profile for your father as the unlisted one created by the UPM will be deleted.

I disagree that a duplicate could be created.  A simple email to Admin could have easily resolved the problem without creating a duplicate.
