Biography

This profile is part of the Ward Name Study.

William married Mary Smith February 9, 1743 at Springfield, Massachusetts. They were the parents of six children: Mary, William, Jerusha, Lucy, Caleb, and Phineas.

At the time of his father's death in 1747 William was residing at Mendon. He later moved to Ashfield, where he died at the age of 62.

He has a beautiful grave stone, inscribed: "To the Memory of Mr. William Ward, who died march the 27th 1778 in the 63rd Year of his Age. Ye careless one who pass this way, a moment stop you'll see, This monument this mouldering clay, Showing what you soon must be."
