James Reynolds Tyler was born on 30 May 1918 in Springfield, Blount, Tennessee, United State, son of William Tyler and Janie Reynolds.[1][2][3]
In 1930, James was living in his grandfather George Reynolds's household in Springfield, Robertson County, along with his divorced mother and brother. [4]
In 1940, James was living with his father and stepmother in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan. The census indicates that he had completed high school and that hea nd his father were working as chauffeurs.[5]
James registered for the draft for World War II in October 1940. He was described as six feet tall, and 160 lbs. He listed his father as his employer and his mother, now Mrs. Janie Bowers, who was living in Springfield, Tennessee, as his next of kin. [3]
James and Mary "Judy" Andrews were married on 5 October 1941 in Detroit.[6] Judy was born on 5 March 1921 in Milledgeville, Baldwin, Georgia, United States. She was the daughter of Fred Douglas Andrews and Susanna (Hill) Andrews. They had three children together.
The family had separated in 1950, though it is uncertain where James was living. Judy and the children were sharing a house with her sister Frances. They appear to have reconciled shortly after the census. James had a job operating a service station in Detroit.[7]
James died at home on 28 October 1951 in Detroit, aged 33.[7][1]
