Biography

Elizabeth was born on 14 December 1784 in Linton, Roxburghshire, Scotland. She was the daughter of John Shill and Ann (Rankon) Shill. Note: Paul R originally provided c. 1785 Yetholm, death cert implies 1782, but at 93 one could forgive an inaccuracy, 1851 census provides birthplace of Linton, and the Linton OPR entry shows Elizabeth as born Decr 14th 1784 (I've assumed Jim's 14 Dec 1782 is a typo)^[1][2]

Elizabeth was baptised on 21 January 1785 in Linton, Roxburghshire, Scotland. Note: OPR entry No. 30 reads John Shill Hynd in Linton had a Daughter by Ann Rankon his wife born Decr 14th 1784 and baptized Janry 21st 1785^[3][4]

The couple married in 1806 and had 13 children:

Elizabeth died at the age of 91 on 21 December 1875 in Burnfoot, Linton, Roxburghshire, Scotland.^[8][12]

Note: Dist 798 #18: aged 93, widow John RICHARDSON, blacksmith. Parents John SHIEL, farm steward, dec, Ann RANKINE, dec, of old age, no medical attendant inf. Henry DICK(son), grandson.

Transcription not clear re informant's name, I'm assuming DICKSON, therefore son of Jemima.
