Note N150William was a shepherd at Heather Hope away out in the Cheviot Hills, between Hownam and Chatto. Later on he took a little farm at Lanton between Ancrum and Jedburgh. He went to help his brother Adam for the 1884 lambing season at Southdean where family legend says he caught pnuemonia and died. His death cert. puts cause of death as Hepatitis. After that his widow and the sons moved to Edinburgh, where one of her sons, Jonah, had already started business a butcher and poulterer.
1861 census has William at Heather Hope with " Margaret " his wife and their three sons John, Jonah and Thomas.
1871 census has William still living at Heather Hope with Mary Ann and five of their children, Jonah, Thomas, Adam, William and Frances; John is not there, he would be 16 years old and probably working elsewhere.
Adam Richardson, his brother, was present for the death certificate registration. It listed Hepatitis, 8 days, as the cause of death at age 58.
