Sinclair Sandison, daughter of Robert Sandison and Kathrine Ross, was born about 1809 and baptised in Watten, Caithness, on 21 August 1809.[1] Place of residence at the time of baptism was Snotterfield (Snotherfield)[2] now believed to be modern day Shielton.[3]
In 1841 Robert Sandison was living with his wife Catherine in "Brumdow" (likely near Druimdubh in the parish of Watten) together with their grandsons Robert Sandison (son of their son William Sandison) and Sinclair Sutherland (son of their daughter Janet Sandison), and Catherine Backie (probably a mistranscription of the surname Baikie). Robert's trade was "farmer".[4]
