- On naming pattern alone, by NO means always followed, we might expect his parents to be a John and Jean.

- I ( Lorna) do not believe there is sufficient evidence, circumstantial or otherwise, to connect this James born 15 Aug 1763[1] possibly at Ayton, Berwickshire (which I extrapolated from both James' marriage to Agnes, and from son David's birth place shown in his attestation papers) to the James born North Berwick 1 Apr 1764 to John Runciman (1728- and Elizabeth Punton (1731-aft.1774)
