Transcription of Runciman headstone at Dirleton.

The Runciman family headstone at Dirleton Kirkyard is weatherworn & therefore not completely legible. Sufficient wording survives to identify the last-listed person is the Jane Runciman who died at Masborough in 1885, thus also confirming her parents’ names. As Jane died in Masborough it’s more likely that she is buried in Masborough and her mention on this stone is to commemorate her.

Inconsistencies:

1881 census seems to be at complete odds by occupation and birth place but does connect well with the 1891 census family, which definitely provides a link back to the correct Jane Runciman family.Henderson-2297
