Isabel (or Bell) Rose of Scorriclate in the parish of Watten, Caithness, was named as the mother of James Gunn (or Rose) who was born illegitimately in January 1825 and baptised in Watten, Caithness, on 3 October 1825.[1]
The circumstances of James Gunn Junior's conception were considered at meetings of the Watten parish kirk sessions in 1825.[2]
In 1841 Isabel was living with Alexander Rose and her son, James, in Bilbster in the parish of Wick, Caithness. Isabel's trade was "agricultural labourer". Although no records have been found yet to support this, it would be reasonable to assume that Alexander and Isabel were related and that Alexander was probably her father.[3]
