James Richardson [1]

Born abt Apr 1775 ?Roxburghshire, Scotland

A prior 1770 date came from "New Brunswick Lineages" which gives Christian's husband as "1770, Edinburgh -1850, Lower Canada", source for this not (yet) found.
The current revised date comes from a headstone in the Beechridge cemetery, which church included Williamstown in its catchment - where James is documented as living when son Adam born. [2][3][4]

Family

Christian Outterson and James Richardson christened children in Morebattle, Roxburghshire, Scotland:

  1. David Richardson, christened 25 Jan 1821[5]
  2. Andrew Richardson, christened 27 July 1822[6]
  3. Henry Richardson, christened 04 January 1824[7]
  4. Robert Richardson, christened 06 May 1826 [8]
  5. Janet Richardson, christened 09 Feb 1828[9]
  6. Samuel Richardson, christened 28 June 1829[10]
  7. Christopher Richardson, christened 02 Nov 1831[11]
  8. Archibald Moffat Richardson, christened 23 Oct 1832[12]

Married 29 APR 1820 Eckford, Roxburghshire, Scotland

Husband: James Richardson
Wife: Christian Outterson
Child: David Richardson
Child: Andrew Richardson
Child: Henry Richardson
Child: Robert C Richardson
Child: Janet Richardson
Child: Samuel Richardson
Child: Christopher Richardson
Child: Archibald Moffat Richardson
Child: Adam Brown (Ed) Richardson
Note: two films, slightly different formatting, of this marriage, both show: "James Richardson in the parish of Morebattle Christian Outterson in the parish of Eckford gave up their names for proclamation in order to Marriage Given to the poor 1/-", ie no indication whether or not James was a widower[13][14][15]
Note: Is the James married to Christian OUTERSON in Eckford, 1820, the James who would by then be the widower of Margaret MABON?
Evidence (circumstantial) for the prosecution is a son named Archibald Moffat RICHARDSON (1832).
If so, by 1832 his son James by 1st marriage to Margaret has married, 1824, Mary MOFFAT of Leeds, daughter of tailor Archibald MOFFAT, and had emigrated to Bermuda.
Additional even more circumstantial evidence is that at least one tree thinks Christian was born in Yorkshire, and that a google books snippet from New Brunswick Lineages provides dates of 1770-1850 for James (Edinburgh - Lower Canada), ie could have had a 1st family.
Against the id, is that 1812 to 1820 seems a longish time to wait to find a second wife to take care of the young family he had been left with in 1812, but could also account for the fact that at least 4 of his older children by the (supposed) 1st marriage emigrated!

On Ancestry, in the "Scotland, Select Births and Baptisms 1564-1950", There is a James Richardson birth date 22 Dec 1802 in Morebattle, Roxburghshire, to Father: James Richardson & Mother: Margaret Mabon. This is the birth date I am using.
