Robert McAdie was named as the father of Donald McAdie who was baptised in Watten, Caithness, on 25 July 1824.^[1] He died in 1870.^[2]

Robert was baptized 10 Apr 1785 at Watten, son of "William McAdie in Newton and Janet Campbell his spouse". The witnesses were "David McAdie in Ruther & George McAdie, Wester" ^[3]

In 1841 Robert was living with his wife and children William, Janet, Elizabeth and Donald in Dunn in the parish of Watten, Caithness. Robert's trade was "farmer". Also living with the family was ten year old Elizabeth Munro whose parents lived nearby in South Dunn.^[4]

By 1851 Robert and Isabella were living at Paddockfield, together with their adult children William, Janet, Betty and Donald. ^[5]

In 1861 he and Bell were farming at Paddockfield, with adult children William, Janet, and Donald with them. ^[6]

His death in 1870 at Paddockfield, informant son William, shows him as widower of Isabella McAdie and his parents as William McAdie, farmer, and Janet McCurthie, both deceased.^[2]

Points for Further Research

• Robert was probably related to David McAdie who is recorded on parish baptism records as living at South Dunn, in Watten, as late as 1823. The exact connection between these two men is to be confirmed.

But be aware that there were a father and son David in South Dun, so the later witnesses could be the younger David. Henderson-2297

• Robert was also probably related to John McAdie, who is also recorded as living in Dunn on the 1841 Scotland Census.
• Reconciliation of Robert's likely baptism in 1785 to William McAdie and Janet Campbell in Newton (Watten) with the parents shown on his death cert: William McAdie and Janet McCurthie.

a couple of these names do show on ScotlandsPeople, but as marrying in 1833. However there is also a 1776 baptism of George MacAdie to William MacAdie in Newton and Janet McCurchie his spouse, which actually suggests to me that McCurchie is an alternate surname for Janet Campbell.
