Biography

Rebecca (Matters) Blair was born in the Colony of Victoria (1851-1900)

Rebecca Elizabeth Matters was born in Geelong, in the colony of Victoria in 1857. She was the daughter of Joseph Simmonds Matters and Elizabeth Hawkins Baker. ^[1]

She married Philip Gilbert Blair on 22 August 1882 at the Registry Office, Gore Street, Fitzroy, in Melbourne, Victoria. ^{[2] [3]}

She stayed with her husband despite his behaviour. (See his Biography for details.) The couple had seven children, but only three survived to adulthood. ^[4]

She died, aged 53, on 11 December 1915 at her residence, 140 Napier Street, South Melbourne, Victoria. She was survived by three of her children, and two grandchildren. ^{[5] [6]} She was buried in the Melbourne General Cemetery, Carlton North, Melbourne City, Victoria, Australia. ^[7]
