Biography

1828: Caroline Martin was baptised at St Mary Church of England in Salehurst, Sussex, England on the 2nd of March 1828[1]. Her mother was Elizabeth Martin of Salehurst, Sussex and there was no father mentioned in the baptismal record.

Seven months later, on the 26th of October 1828, Elizabeth Martin married William Adams in Salehurst, Sussex. From this time forward Caroline was known as Caroline Adams and she was treated as a daughter by William Adams. The presumption here is that she was William's child although there is no proof.

1830: In 1830 William and Elizabeth Adams and their children Caroline and John set sail for the Swan River Colony in the 2nd expedition on board the Rockingham.[2] On arrival the Rockingham was driven against the rocks and became salvage.

1848: On the 15th of February 1848[3] Caroline Adams married Charles Philip Hanaam (also know as Charles Gabriel Hanham) at Fremantle, Western Australia.

Caroline was a Librarian at the Fremantle Literary Institute (1880-85 Almanac).[2]

1908: Caroline Hanham passed away on the 4th of September 1908 at Palmyra, Western Australia, Australia and is now buried in the Fremantle Cemetery[4], Palmyra, Western Australia. She was survived by her husband Charles Gabriel Hanham, her children and many grandchildren[5].

Adams-40507 and Martin-19978 appear to represent the same person because: Her birth was registered under MARTIN with no father recorded, therefore MARTIN is the correct Last Name at Birth. ADAMS belongs in the other last names field.
