Beautiful Valley School
On Thursday, August 27th. 1908 visiting day was held at the Beautiful Valley School, when about fifty friends were present and a most enjoyable afternoon was spent.
The teacher (Miss Florence Malcolm) was ably assisted by the parents and several gentlemen from Wilmington to make the day a success, which undoubtedly it was. A good display of fancy work, sewing and book work was to be seen in the schoolroom, and which was much admired by the visitors.
At 2.30 the children were marched into school, where a splendid programme consisting of songs and recitations were carried out. Rev. A. M. Trengove acted as chairman and, after congratulating the children on their work, he urged them to remain at school as long as they could. The Rev. E. Everett also spoke to the children. A short report was read by the teacher, which showed that the recent examination held on Aug. 3rd. was very successful.
At the completion of the programme the visitors and children assembled in the playground, where races were held. Afternoon tea was served to all, after which the children were given a packet containing an orange and some lollies.
The following gentlemen assisted Miss Malcolm in giving prizes for the races:—Revs. A. M. Trengove and E. Everett, Messrs. Tuck well, Schmidt, Davies and Jacob. The following races were run: Girls, under 10—Tilly Schiebtier, Emily Liebick: Girls, over 10— Pearl Liebick, Rose Davies; Boys—Joe Freeman, Roy Liebick; Running and Skipping (girls)—A Liebick.
