Biography

Alexander's biography is contained in the book From Weavers to Wapstraw by Ben Evans.

Alexander, son of William Malcolm & Margaret Boyd, was born on 26 November 1819 and baptised on 19 December 1819 in , Muiravonside, Stirling, Scotland.

Alexander Malcolm was the proprietor of the Black Bull Hotel in Hindley Street, Adelaide. Alexander died (age 34) on 20 August 1853 in South Australia.[1]
The following report appeared in the newspaper after his death.
Funeral of Mr Alexander Malcolm.
The old colonist who died on Sunday last, was followed to the grave yesterday by about one hundred and fifty of his friends.
Mr Malcolm's late position in this town as a wine and spirit merchant; and also as a retired publican, commanded almost universal respect from the Licensed Victuallers and others; and it was very gratifying to see yesterday so many of his staunch friends and supporters follow his corpse to the grave.
His death also will be felt in the racing circle here, as he was a liberal supporter of the Turf, and always willing to cater for the amusement of the public.
