Andrew Bonar Law was born in Kingston, New Brunswick on September 16, 1858.
He was the son of James Law and Annie Kidston.
He was named for the cleric and writer Rev. Andrew Alexander Bonar DD.
The name of the town was changed from "Kingston" to "Rexton" in 1901 [1].
At the time of the 1861 Canada East, Canada West, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia Census, Revd James, Robert, William K., John R.K., Andrew Bonar, and Mary E. Law (mistranscribed as "Lary") were listed as living in Richibuctou, New Brunswick, along with James' sister-in-law, Janet Kidston, a visitor, and a servant[2]. The census lists Bonar’s age as 2, which is in line with his reported birth in September, 1858.
At the time of the 1871 Canada Census, James, Sophia, Robert, John, Bonner, Minnie, Janet, and Bessie Law (mistranscribed as "Lair") were listed as living in Richibucto, New Brunswick, along with a servant[3].
Andrew Bonar Law married Annie Pitcairn Robley, daughter of Harrington Robley, in Helensburgh, Dunbartonshire on 24 March 1891[4].
The couple had six children:
Andrew Bonar Law was Prime Minister of Great Britain from October 23, 1922, to May 20, 1923. He was the first holder of that office to come from a British colony.[5][6]
Hon. Andrew Bonar Law died on 30 October 1923, and was buried in Westminster Abbey[7][8]. His death was registered in Kensington in the fourth quarter of 1923[9].
